Grasshoppers

Well as I mentioned in the last entry, our busy summer has begun.

The day after my last post, the four of us took off to our favorite beach, Ocean Park in OOB. OOB, certainly is not one of the more desirable areas in Maine but Ocean Park is a hidden gem and a favorite beach of my family for decades.

Grammie and Grampie found this location years ago. They stayed at the Billow House, a place you will hear me mention as you get older. My parents took Auntie Meg and I hear every summer for years. There is a creek here that houses many different types of shells. I have spent many hours here searching for sand dollars in this creek.

I can remember being young and waking up with Grampie before the sun came up. We would walk out onto the beach and wait for the sunrise. We used binoculars to see the man's face in moon, and when the sun came up we headed down to the creek to find sand dollars.

Nana also enjoyed looking for shells. I can remember her taking her time to find as many shells as she could. This was a nice tradition in my family that I have been happy to carry over to you guys.

We arrived around 8:00 and it was the perfect beach day. Not too too hot, but certainly not cold. Mom went off to the little shop to buy two shovels for you both. Not just any shovels these things are huge. Mom and I were talking about how we have no choice but to buy two of everything that might be significant now! We arrived just as the tide started to go out. This is an ideal time to arrive at this beach.

After breakfast we spent quite a bit of time digging pits and making castles. JD, you got a little frustrated with Ad, because each time we dug a pit and it filled with water Ad decided to sit and play in it! Adam, you were in one hole for about 35 minutes!

After that we went down to the creek and actually spent a good hour there. We looked for shells and crabs, and played in the water as it became shallow. Adam this was your favorite part of the day. You just adore the water but don't like to venture out into the unpredictable waves, so this moderate pace was perfect.

We have never had a bad time at Ocean Park, infact it typically relaxes us all. This was our first trip where Adam could really enjoy it. It's great to see you both playing together so well and so often. We are planning to come back here in a few weeks with Nana. On this day I even found a Sand Dollar!!

The beginning of the week following our trip to Ocean Park consisted of a ton of baseball playing. JD, I've started to throw pretty hard to you while you're at the plate (when we play wiffle ball.) We have also started to play quite often with a real ball and bat. You could play all day long and sometimes you do.

Adam, you've started hitting the ball too. You have a little red bad for young kids and each time I pitch to JD, you come over to me with your ball and bat and ask me to pitch to you too! You surprised me recently and hit three of the balls I pitched to you!

Adam big news for you this week too. You are no longer sitting in the baby seat off the side of the table. You are new in your very own booster seat!
We had to reconfigure where everyone sits at the table because you previously sat at the end of the table. I think its safe to say the you love your new place!

Toward the end of the week, Mom and I left for Bar Harbor. We dropped both of you and Asbury off with Grandy on Thursday and headed north for some R & R. We went out for Mexican food (our favorite) right when we arrived, then checked into the room.
We went for three hikes in Acadia National Park, watched a comedy show, had seafood, and most importantly spent some nice time together. We missed you both and you were both happy to see us when we arrived back home.

The next day JD and I went to a NASCAR race in Louden, NH with Grampa. I have never been a NASCAR fan, but the movie "Cars" has really sparked an interest for you, JD. Grampa thought it would be fun and was nice enough to get the tickets for us! You had the best time! We were able to see Dale Jr's car and a bunch of others. The sound of the cars was deafening. Hard to believe these little cars made such a loud noise. We left a bit early as to beat the traffic and you were asleep before we left the parking lot!

Today we went to the True's house for the annual 4th of July cookout Party. It was a real good time as always. This was our third time there for the 4th and certainly our final time as they will be moving any day now. Selfishly, I wish they would stay, but I'm sure it will be best for them to move on. Adam, you jumped off the diving board today! JD jumped off first and then Caden thought about it, and before I knew it you walked right up and with a little assistance you were off! JD you did a great job swimming today. You fell in by mistake at one point and had to swim to the shallow end. I saw you fall and could have easily grabbed you but you didnt need my help. Then we all got cleaned up and into nice clothes and had a nice lobster dinner. After dinner JD fell into the pool again this time with ALL of his clothes on!

We came home and you both went right to bed. I thought you were both asleep and JD, you came downstairs and were upset. You told me that you had to let your grasshoppers go or they would die and you wanted me to come out and say good bye to them with you. Lately you have thoroughly enjoyed catching grasshoppers in the backyard. You are always very careful to let them go at night so they won't die in the house. Tonight you made sure that they were all back in the field before you dozed off. This is the kind of boy you are..
